Question [Lighting/Rendering]How to get this look?

Hey Guys,

does anyone know how to achieve a pastelle-colored, desaturated and paperlike look like in this video?

https://vimeo.com/28959265

Im a aware that I need low poly geometry, but what do I need on the rendering/lighting site to get this look? I already see I need a nice looking depth of field and some kind of physical sun and sky ...

can you guys give me some rendering and lighting tips, because I am very unexperienced on this site of production.

I am using Maya 2013 with mental ray. But we have Vray in school too, if that is a better solution!?

Best regards
fg

not an expert, but I would guess it has some either calculated or faked bounce lights (probably calculated - kids these days), using shaders with quite high roughness and little specular/reflection, maybe even hand-drawn textures. In comp using some different passes like zdepth and ao. zdepth to add haze, sun bloom and other atmospheric effects.

Make a screen cap and desaturate it. That should give you a better idea how the lighting was.

The colors can be graded to look like that.

Nothing special happening there. Just some post work afterwards (curves, glow, etc...)
