Does anyone know what causes this?

Hi, I'm just learning how to do some volume lighting and messing around with different techniques. However, I've followed a tutorial, word perfect and I seem be getting these weird, square lighting things. It's on here http://erica3dportfolio.blogspot.co.uk/

It was made using the spotlight and the scene is surrounded by a volume box. I've set up all the required setting i.e. volume settings, illuminated on etc- all those little settings.

Is is a bug maybe? something obvious I'm missing?

Thanks

This appears to be due to your render settings and light's settings.

Which renderer are you using? Which application are you using?

Looks like FG or GI issues.

Did the tutorial you are following mention anything about scale?

Can you post the tutorial or perhaps explain what you'd like to accomplish? By volume lighting I'm assuming your are talking about using the parti_volume shader to create Volumetric or Crepuscular light rays?
