How do I turn off dynamic hair?

I have a character with a ponytail that have attached hair dynamic to using this tutorial. What I would like to know is if anyone familiar with this pipeline - which I've seen repeated in multiple tutorials in my search, so I'm assuming it's common - knows how to turn it on and off. Specifically, I'd like to know what parts can I turn off that will keep my computer from spending resources figuring out the dynamics so it doesn't bog down when I'm animating.

In the nucleus set the playback mode from dynamic to static and have a rig control connected to this or SDK it on and off.

you can also turn off Is dynamic in the curve shape node I believe.
