Lowering Animated Rig to Low res proxy

I alembic exported a pre-animated character rig (Morpheus) by selecting all the geo pieces in the rig, used Combine Mesh, then exported the single mesh to Houdini.

However, the mesh made the sim too high, so I am trying to figure out in Maya a way to somehow lower the combined mesh poly to create a low res proxy that I can alembic export. Hopefully, it can be done in a way that won't mess up the animation.
