Weird problem making texturing impossible...

I'm a Maya user and I've never seen this before. Somewhere along the way, I must have changed a setting because I'm getting this odd grid whenever I select any sub-element be it polys or UV's. Its making arranging my UV's next to impossible so any help is greatly appreciated.

Looks like you turned soft selection on. I'm a Max user, so it might be called something else in Maya, but turn it off and you should be good to go.

Yes that's soft selection. Toggle it on/off by pressing b.
