TEN CGChallenge XXVII :: Winners announced

Hey,

Congrats to all the winners. Some very impressive work there.

I just have a general question about the judging. How do you make sure that the image/videos submitted were done inside the guidelines of the challenge? Because if I look at the Team Video Master Prize winners, it seems to me that the short wasn't really done for this challenge specifically, but they rather changed the name to make it fit. The trailer for the short was actually released nine months ago on youTube under the name Double Hunting.

I didn't even participate in this challenge but I still find this frustrating and wanted to point this out of fairness for those that started working from the first day the challenge started. It's already hard enough to do a short in 3 months, but if you have to compete with work that did not have this constraint, isn't it a little unfair?

And yes. I really hope cgchallenge judges/groups do something about that winning video.

This has been brought up behind the scenes and is being investigated.

I have two questions.

1) why would a group of people try to scam a challenge and ruin all the hard work they've done by attaching a bad reputation to their short? Did they think no one would notice?
2) how in the world can the judges miss such a blatant scam?

Best of luck to the people who tried to win fairly.

Well I can only speak for myself here but I don't follow other CG websites at all and would never have known that content in a video here had been used before. Do you really expect all of us to to keep track of every piece of CG on the web? This is why we rely on members of the community to bring our attention to things if they know of a problem.

Like I said, this was brought to our attention earlier this evening and it'll be looked into. Let's please not let this overshadow the accomplishments of the others.

My intention is not to overshadow the accomplishments of others, but to bring attention to the submission methods.
I've never participated in these contests, but maybe there needs to be a more rigorous submission requirement.
Maybe file dates, wip threads, etc...

...maybe I'm just pointing out the obvious...

Congratulations to all the challengers and the winners! Also, this time I feel the winners article was really packaged well. (More focus on the winners/the videos are stable & faster to load)

As for the fishy entries, the community can always help but with the current CG Challenge system it's kind of hard to follow each entry. Had it been the old forum system it would have been much easier to follow each WIP. Also, for the deliverable we are only required to submit 1 submission per milestone and that too can be submitted any time of the challenge (like the last week). That gives room to such entries IMO.

That apart it was a really good challenge and a 2D entry with strong story winning the challenge is refreshing.

Grats to all the winners

That said I feel like the challenge lost something a little again this time around. Not sure if was another one without the threads or if it was just a bad time of year or something.

I do think maybe there is a need to separate 2D and 3D from the video masters awards? Was I the only one not that excited to see something with great design but not much in terms of technical execution winning the individual master award? I mean, I thought it was an awesome entry and a wonderful animation but never-the-less it just somehow felt a bit wrong? Like the only person at a Halloween party not in costume?

That said I'd offer an extra big grats to the image award winners and runners up. I thought their contributions this year were fabulous and the competition was stiff!

Much inspiration so thanks.

And big-time congrats to all the winners (hopefully 2D animation and digital paintings will be part of future challenges, 'cause that's all I'm focussing on at present; 3D hopefully later).

Much enjoyed. Great concepts. And congrats too CGSociety for 10 years of awesome.
