Importing a 3DS Mesh is invisible in Max 2012 in Wireframe

Hey all,

I have a team member that creates mesh for me in Lightwave. I have just gone to Max 2012 from Gmax. In Gmax, I could import 3DS and OBJ formats fine, but in Max 2012 32bit, when I import a 3DS in, the Wireframe is invisible, while the Shaded view is fine.

Does anyone know what might be going on and how to repair this?

If you can, try to get them to export .obj files from Lightwave, it's a better format than .3ds

sounds like all edges are set to invisible when written to the 3ds file by the exporter
Maybe the exporter has some options to set to correct this...

For the existing files you can go to edit mesh->edges, select all edges and make the visible ( somewhere in the modifier there's a button for this)
Needless to say you will loose some of the geometry's info doing so...
So switching to obj format as darthviper suggested is probalby the best

3ds is an obsolete and limited format ....

Good to know.

I had thought 3DS was better then OBJ format. I learn something new every day.

You could also try .fbx although don't know if lightwave will export that !
