rendering and comping

Hello All,

Have a question about rendering a "Interaction" pass. A interaction pass is the 3d elements that is created by a 3d object when it interacts with a live action plate. For example: The shadows cast on the live action plate, the reflection, the Gi...

What I have is a simple live action plate of a road with some puddles of water. I have a 3d car that I want to put on the road. So I have a rendered car and road which I can comp. How would I create the interaction pass ? How do I set up so I get the shadows of the car and the reflection of the car in the puddles? I am currently using Vray. I tried using the vray material wrapper but its tricky to setup.

Please Help...

Thanks

The specifics depend on which 3d program and renderer you're using. But generally you have to roughly match up 3d geometry to the objects in your shot.

So in this case, you align a plane along the road that matches in perspective. Then you apply a material to the geometry that will catch the shadows/AO/reflection, and only show that in the render. It's usually called a Matte material, or something similar.
