Upgrade help...

I have...
- AMD PII 955BE at 3.6GHz
- ASUS Crosshair V Formula AMD 990FX ROG Motherboard
- G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900)
- OCZ Agility 3 AGT3-25SAT3-120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III
- WD 640GB black HDD
- WD 2T green HDD (needs to go in for warrenty )
- CORSAIR HX Series HX1050 1050W PSU
- a good water cooling set up for the CPU

The question is... Being a college student I do not have a lot of money, but I fell its time to upgrade a little. First I plan to buy a second set of my ram to bump it to 16GB of DDR3 1866MHz. but the question I am apprehensive about is, should I just go the cheapest way and buy the new AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core CPU or sell my current motherboard/CPU, and get an Intel i7 3770K and a MSI Z77A-G45 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 motherboard?(about a $250 difference minus what ever I can get from selling my mobo/cpu)

I will be using Luxology Modo and some 3DSMAX, mostly modeling, but rendering too.

I just experimented and made a new 8350 fx machine to go sided with my intel q6600.

From the programs you suggest I would go with intel as you can afford the difference and you should benefit overall from single threaded superiority i7 provide..

My needs are different so I went with amd also to test the platform for future renderfarm nodes.
