CGChallenge XXVII has begun!

CGChallenge XXVII: TEN

11 October 2012 - 11 January 2013

CGSociety is celebrating our first ten years as the premier site for CG artists worldwide. As part of the celebration we challenge you to incorporate the number ten into an image or video, whether literally or symbolically.

It could be a child counting to 10 for the first time, a parody of the movie 10, a play on words (tentacles, tenacious, tenant), the Ten commandments, ten minutes to save the world, remember when you were ten (imaginary friends, bullies, nightmares, dreams for the future), what happened ten years ago, the power of ten.

It could be 2D or 3D, image or video, and produced on any software. Make it hilarious or make it epic, just make sure it cleverly adds the number, idea, word or symbol of ten. It is CGChallenge XXVII, and it’s going to be big!

You'll be judged by some massive stars of digital art: Daniel Hornick, Steven Stahlberg, Pascal Blanche, Lorne Lanning, Krishnamurti Costa, Jeff Mottle, Christopher Sloan, Brom, Alex Morris, Alexander Preuss, Ziv Qual, Leigh van der Byl and Mark Snoswell.

Prizes… the biggest prize pool ever! Over $140,000 worth of amazing goodies from the best companies in the industry. Thanks to our incredible sponsors: NVIDIA, Autodesk, WACOM, AMD, NewTek, Side Effects, Pixologic, The Foundry / Luxology, CHAOSGROUP, RealFlow, Shutterstock, Imagineer systems, IKinema, RenderLife, Xfrog, Evermotion, Think Kinetic, stash, 3dConnexion, Video CoPilot, Verold, Ballistic, and CGWorkshops.

I really like the topic, and its certainly a nice array of prizes.

I will say that I miss the threaded WIP challenges. This new format really doesn't make me want to participate, or really follow.

Bring back the WIP threads, and I can see the sense of 'community' that the previous challenges had returning.

You've got 10 choices to make, either join the challenge or do not. Sorry, couldn't help but throw in a little binary humour there. Totally caught me by surprise, maybe this will be the challenge that I enter and actually follow through to complete?

+1'000'000.

I realise it might come across as a stubborn nostalgic refusal to move with the times, but the new format is very frustrating to follow and I wish it could be like the old system...

Maybe then I could participate, bite off more than I can chew and then drop out without finishing.

This one sounds tricky. Numbers are hard to include. Going to do some research on the symbolic meanings of the number 10. The first things that come to my mind are robots and those "Learn to count to 10" books.

I hope I will be able to join

Hmm, this will be a tricky one to conceptualize. Well, I'm all ready to start an entry I never finish.

Same here. :-(

That aside, the scope for this seems unusually broad. I mean, from the examples & descriptions they provide, it's possible to "reverse engineer" just about any image to have something to do with the number "10" or the letters "T-E-N," especially if those 3 letters are just part of a larger word. Seems more like a "Do whatever the hell you want" and worry about some kind of tenuous connection to the theme later.

Its been discussed a few times but the new system has a unanamious thumbs down from everyone at the office here. Bring back threads, they work for, erm, the rest of the entire site

We intentionally opted for a very broad theme for a change, to see what would happen. Of course we realise there will be some demons and big-titted warrior slags somehow nebulously linked to the theme, but they happen regardless of how loose or tight the theme is anyway.
