Maya poly reduction uses Graphics CPU or Motherboard CPU?

Does the maya poly reduction tool use the Graphics Card CPU or the motherboards CPU?

Maya does very little with the graphics card, only viewport rendering, specialized image rendering, and specialized physics calculations. Everything else is done by the processor including the polygon reduction tool.

Yup, pretty much everything but the opengl rendering is done by your CPU.

A good way to learn is to open a CPU monitor that shows your different cores, and to see what happens. Its also a nice way to diagnose crashes, and to see what processes are multi threaded or not.
