maya problem- shortcuts keep randomly not working

hey i have an annoying problem on maya

randomly a lot of times , my shortcuts will stop working and i cant scroll in and out to zoom. i have to exit maya then when i go back in , it works. i dont know what could be causing this

i am using the latest maya 2013 on mac if that matters

does anyone have a solution for this? thanks

Its been happening in maya since they implemented qt in 2011.

My old custom marking menu workflow and shortcut workflow isn't as fast now either since there is always a delay with the menus.

There are days when I really need to to hurry where I will fire up maya 2009 just to work as fast as I used to an not have to wait around on the interface. Forget all the GL enhancements, fancy dockable windows, new features, etc. Sometimes you just want to get work finished in a lightweight UI.

Sadly I don't think maya will ever be as fast as it used to be no matter how quick the computers get.

I have almost become used to the defaults again now that customizing is almost useless to me.

I still have the custom marking menus, hotkeys, and hotboxes saved in my maya 2009 directory though just in case maya ever comes back.

Don't get me wrong. I love maya. Use it daily. The new QT ui has never been as snappy as the old one and the hotkeys bug has been there since implementation.

I run into this occasionally - seems like it predates 2011.
One thing to look for is if the mouse focus is in a dialogue box - the dialogue box will absorb all the keystrokes.
It happens so erratically I haven't quite figured out a consistent fix. Try RMB in a viewport and also clicking in an empty space below the channel box.
