polygon to sub-d convert. Is this bad?
Could anyone have a look at my attached image?
Im trying to convert a poly mesh to sub d mesh in Maya, and i get the result you will see in the image.
Some of the edges stops up, and makes bad looking geometry..I added the before converting, and after image.
When i render though, the smooth seem to look as it should. So can i, and should i fix this? Or can i just ignore it? Is there mayb another way to do it? Im not rendering in mental ray, so im not using the approximation editor. I also tried mesh>smooth with good result, but it adds alot of faces dont it?
I guess some philosophy say that if it look good on render, its not a problem. But im asking cause i want to be able to solve problems, and im abit concerned about future problems, like mayb texturing, etc
Thank you for any help on this

seems like there is a face inside the tube. check it with reversed face normals or in wireframe.
for that, use polygon selection -> center. then you have a dot in the middle of your poly for selection, so you can see better in wireframe-mode if there's a face inside the tube.
it's also helpful to turn on viewport backface culling and make your border edges thicker. then you will check quickly what's wrong with your object.
also, delete the caps at the ends of your tubes.
P.S.: i never use maya's subD's. Simply smooth your polys (or let it smooth on rendertime) an you get the same result, with a lot more flexibility. you can preview the smoothing with the '1' '2' '3' keys.
