Photoshop/Matte Painting class

Hi all,

I'm currently taking a VFX program, and here are some quick thumbnails I did for Photoshop class... We were actually supposed to work in greyscale but I wanted to challenge myself and practice colour matching.

Please critique

Thanks!
Steph

hi there, in your night image your black levels are not working, they need to be inside your atmosphere and aerial perspective, talking about the darkest blacks in your background, also the shadow coming from the moon would be better if it looks "sharper" it will be harder to paint and will take longer to paint such a detailed shadow but it will be worthy.
the second one is the more photo real to me, very moody, lots of atmosphere and accurate to a good exposure.
the third one is a backlit scene and your mountains are lit from the left with a strong shadow, when they should appear almost as silhouettes, always work with photo reference, spend a couple of hours gathering photos of the lighting you want the exposure, the mood, the color palette and just stick to those elements as a reference for what you want to achieve.

Thanks for your feedback, I will work on fixing those paintings...

Here is a new one I worked on as a side project, not an assignment...and I animated a butterfly flying through the trees...Just practicing what I have learned in classes so far

Thanks again for any critiques.

Cheers,

Steph
