HCM #34 - Masters Tribute: Ralph McQuarrie - Yoda

Hey guys thought I should try my hand at this. Huge star wars and Ralph McQuarrie fan, as I am sure, most people here are.
Surprised no one picked this one yoda.

Welcome to the challenge. You're right, it is surprising nobody picked that... It's an awesome choice! Will you be making a diorama or just Yoda? Either way, good luck!

Edit:
Also...
...try my hand...

No! DO. Or do not. There is no try.

Many people didn't take the Luke versus Starkiller concept instead they take more original piece. But someone have to do Yoda. There's no other concept more cool then this.

Any way good luck, I will watch you

Here's some of what I've started I did his basemesh in maya and have just started sculpting it Hope you like it.
I find it's hard to imitate the look of the original puppet though

It's looking great. If anything, I think you should try to make the skin a bit more baggy: right now it looks a bit more like prequel-era Yoda than original trilogy.

Hey guys here some more. hands and clothes "almost" finished feet left and then were onto the environment!
And yes meloncov you're right about the weight of the skin so I did a lot of sculpting trying to make him look more like the puppet I like where it has gone. I have way fewer wrinkles on mine than the "new" yoda and the eyes I feel look more like the puppet.

Nice progress so far! I'd work on the cloth folds a bit more. They are a little too pointed right now. Are you planning on creating the whole picture?

I agree Japetus with the folds and I will be working on them. ADD just kicked in so I started futsing around with the environment and R2. Hopefully I can have them done at the end of this week and I think I might just sculpt the other little critters.

Those roots are one giant pain

Awesome! That will be a fantastic piece with all the trees and creatures in there. Keep it up!

Good blocking. That's gonna be cool once you start detailing.

The trees in the back may need to be pushed back a bit further or it might be a trick in the painting.

Front tree textured and sculpted spent about 6 hours on this I'm pretty happy with the result. probably will end up doing more cracks in the bark if time permits.
