Jorge Jesus

Hi, I tried to post this portrait at 2D showcase and it was rejected. And I don't know what is wrong with it.
Opinions and critics are very whelcome.
Thank you very much.

The jacket looks odd because you're not following the logical coherency of values and lighting. There's no reason why the lapels would suddenly be much lighter in value compared to the areas next to them. The lapels are on the exact same plane of surface as the chest, and the only way the values would be so different is if the lapels are pulled up, forming a distinct angle from the chest.

The chest feathers look like they're all sticking out from the body instead of resting against the body.

These above problems are due to your tendency to arbitrarily push the contrast, without considering the logical lighting/value coherency.

The beak looks crooked because it's turned more to the side than the face is.

The lighting is bland and diffused, especially for the subject matter. For such an odd character portrait, you might want to give it a more dramatic lighting.

Thank you for your critique. It's very hard to see the painting problems without more than 2 eyes.

It was very helpful.

Thank you very much.
