Armed and Dangerous: The Dark Transvestite

Hey there,

Hope your all well! So about a week ago I decided to enter this contest but was drawing a blank on what to sculpt. I have always been a huge fan of Mile Teves concept for Darkness in the epic 80's fantasy movie Legend, so I decided to use that character for the competition. While I will deviate from Teve's original design, he gets full credit. I hope this is does not break any rules??

Anyhow, here is a shot of Darkness from the film to refresh your memories:

The story line is as follows (straight from Wikipedia) : "Once, long ago in a world of unicorns, fairies, goblins, and demons, the Lord of Darkness beseeches Mother Night for her protection, lamenting his isolation, exiled underground by an unseen force. He senses the presence of two unicorns who safeguard the power of light, and bids his goblin servant, Blix, to find and destroy them. They are to bring him the horns, to create a lasting darkness and ensure that sunshine never returns."

So I have completed the initial basemesh for the characters in Softimage and have started to sculpt in the anatomy ( I stress "started"). Here is the progress so far:

And more:

So I whipped these into Mudbox today and began blocking out the anatomy, there will be some clothes, some armor, and weapons to follow.

Next steps: get some clothes on this beast! Ooo and he needs some gangly gross nails...

So I have come up with my overall concept. I figure the winner of this thing is probably not going to be something cliche. So a big horned demon with armor and a sword is probably not going to cut it. So I am going to combine Tim Curry's Darkness with Tim Curry's Dr N Frakenfurter.

And I shall call him The Dark Transvestite. He will be armed with a whip, fishnet stockings, and a feather.

Next steps: model new clothing in Softimage and get sculpting.

Ok I finally had time to work on this, I was experimenting with Softimage but am back to Maya. There is almost no chance to get this done by the deadline, but I will give it a shot. I am going to have to things really simple...

Storyline: the Dark Transvestite is built like a warrior, but by night he is one hell of a lover. His weapons of choice include a large feather teaser, a whip, a pair of handcuffs, and a variety of love potions. Most of his clothing is made from unicorn leather. He detests unicorns as their power prevents darkness from enveloping the earth. When he is not trying to capture and kill unicorns he has developed a real penchant for cross dressing. Legend has it once the last drop of unicorn blood is spilled his greatest spell will be completed: no living creature will be able to resist the Dark Transvestite.

Here are the base meshes done in Maya and brought over to Mudbox:

The next phase is to sculpt in all the detail. I am also going to paint some transparency on the hair and feather geometry.

Given that there is only a week left I will probably try and pose him in Mudbox, no time to rig methinks.
