Question How to keep orthongonality/Parallelism ?

Does anybody know how to keep orthogonality while modeling a polymesh? For example when you use the split edge tool, how to make it follows a straight line...? If you want to split a square in two but not in the middle, how can you split it and keep parallelism ?

See the attached file if you don't understand what I want to do.

Select the edges, then either use the 'Split edges with Split control' tool or open the split edge tool and middle click on one of the edges

Of course for either of these to work, the border edges have to be parallel in the first place.

take the edgeloop from "what it does", go in scaling mode, global + COG, scale to 0 on the axis you want it perpendicular to.

or after you have the line drawn in take the point that you want to move select the proper axis activate snap mode and snap to the otehr point.
A great tool for placing loops is ] not sure what its called but it allows you to place an entire loop in one clcik play around with it

it's just rumors, some more founded then others.
there's only been two sightings of pre-beta v4 demos insofar, so the little rumors you hear around are usually from those who attended or from friends of those.

not the time yet to get all shaky about v4 (hey it's just 4.5 months that v3.5 came out !!), wait at least till the end of 2003 before starting with the usual version hype

Well in the case of the case of the Knife Tool it's much more than a rumor. It was shown at our last user group by Softimage's Chinny, and it looked pretty advanced.

Other stuff shown by Softimage at our last user group:
