Split polygon
Hmm not many lightwave threads about. But I'll try my luck and see if anyone can help me out.
So I'm making an arch way which will be exported into zbrush and so need the polys to be reasonably even. I want to create a loop from one point all the way across to the other side cutting along the polygons. Suppose the image will help explain this better. Any suggestions? ![]() Also as a side note, is lightwave kinda on the way out? Just been using the modeler as it's far easier than Maya's interface... |

You can use Add Edges tool (Detail/Edges/More/Add Edges).
Hit "N" after picking the tool to invoke the numeric window of it an press "Stopper". From here you can use "Distance" which will be counted from one of the points. To find the suitable distance - start without the stopper and notice the distance in the numeric field of the Add Edges. Not exactly understand what you mean by "way out" - if you mean way out from Maya - yes it's surpass Maya modeling by quantum leap. If you mean that LW disheartening or not used often - this is normal for LW, all my LW career this program straggling to survive but still exist. __________________

if you want to discuss LightWave, follow the signature link below...
more people over there... haven't tried 11.5 yet, so can't say, but i believe they added a tool that does this pretty fast... |

Thanks Eugeny! That worked perfectly.
I worked it a little differently by clicking and dragging a blue circle (which populates each edge - one per edge) over to one corner, then clicking an adjacent edges circle to create a new edge. Didn't really need the numeric interface for it at all. Quite similar to Maya's split polygon tool in fact. And yes what I mean by 'on the way out', was whether Lightwave has been losing its user base. Whether it was failing and perhaps might be a better idea to learn a new modeler. erikals - Cheers for that. I'll definitely check it out ![]() |
