HDR Light Studio equivalent ?

Hi Guys !

i was looking at the HDR Light Studio plugin it looks really cool :

i thought at the begining that it include a realtime previz tool, but i realise that they use sprayTrace and not their own solution.

so at the end HDRlight studio is only an editor that simplify the creation of your HDR maps + a library of HDR images (well ... if i get it correctly ? ) So when i see they ask 1000 bucks for this i definitly think that i will go with an other path ...

So do you guys know another good enough path ?
there is the great sIBL-GUI from Thomas Mansencal which is really cool

there is also sIBL-edit
But it looks quit simple at the moment ...

Do you guys know other or best workflow to edit you HDR in an efficient way ?

for the moment i would go for a
- sIBL-GUI solution for HDR managment
- Nuke custom tools for editing the map

what would be your choice ? do you guys know other alternative or tools ?
thanks for your lights guys !

I played with it a bit quite some time ago. At the end I think placing area light with Vray RT was easier... I suppose you can render out your Vray lights into an HDR map too by doing a Vray spherical camera.

The $495 license for HDR Light Studio 4 is worth it IMO. they will transfer the license if you have to move it to a newer machine so "node locked" is a bit misleading. I wrote a review of it here:

I used to think this type of software was overrated but it's actually pretty great. Especially considering you can match lighting between Maya and Houdini with no extra work.

Well thanks for your answers guys !

495$ is quite expensive but its definitly a realistic price i agree with you Dave . The tool looks really cool ! but if you want to buy it in your company you need floating license, and the things is that they ask for a minimum of 5 license. You have to pay 5000$ to be able to edit your HDR with HDR Light. For a print / archviz / cad company i'm sure its definitly useful, but at this price i prefer to buy 5 Maxwells licence ...

Thats why i was searching for alternatives ... But it looks to be a unique product at this time ... (thus the price )

I think they have patents so I doubt you'll see a cheaper commercial alternative come around.
