A plane surface - how to fragment, fracture or shuttering

I need to fragment a simple plane planar surface into a lot of pieces but... both "fracture voronoi" free script and "rayfire" seems they could do it correctly... I mean.. they work fine with solid geometry.. but when I try with a simple plane I obtein a lot of coplanar surfaces.. like if they consider the plane like a box with 0 height.

How can I solve?

Thanks a lot!

They both use booleans which expect closed geometry. You can try to do it with the ProCutter tool, which allows planes for at least the cutter and maybe the main object too.

Or you could extrude the plane to make it a solid, fragment that, then delete all the extruded and back faces. This isn't too hard with Rayfire as you can assign a second material id to all the edge faces which allows you to select them all to delete at once. I don't know about the voronoi fragmenter tool.
