I personally like a html page loaded with images and just scroll down or pick a project then have one page loaded with images (it can have some extra stuff like comments etc) that way its easy to see all the work. Interactive image galleries are for the most part highly inefficient, I skip through most of them and view about 2 images then close the site. Honestly though if you go on youtube and type in basic css site you can learn it in a few hours tops.

Standard procedure for websites is find a few you like, mock it up in photoshop then replicate it to a few of the many excellent YouTube tutorials. Done

Really its quite a useful skill to know if you do graphics.

Don't be intimidated with editing CSS, it is really easy. Just learn the syntax and the rest is document formatting.
