jumpin in the mix...
Lernin .vs. The Admins!
The problem more than anything is this digitial age.... Sooo many students see great artists who only work digitally, or they see the photoshop and painter pics, or the anime, and just want to do it... A good percent of students in my experience don't want to understand how to draw the figure... they just want to do it... They don't want to understand the concepts of light and value and modeling form, they just want to do it... Soo many things come soo easy, that students forget that creating great art comes with some amount of struggle, and BAAAAAAD DRAWINGS! Sooo many students are wallowing in bad art because they are afraid to go outside of the "style" they have developed.... We all went through it, but I believe it is more prevelant today than before... The message we forget sometimes is that all great artist started with some work that we might all have a good chuckle at...

Agreed. Especially if it is bad anime.
The digital age I think has created a gulf between those who have skill and those who don't. For those with skill, they can be that much better with digital tools, if not simply faster. Students often forego skill in favor of slick results and rely on the computer to fix problems for them, ie spellchecking.
But there is no spell checker for bad drawing, poor painting or a lack of work ethic.
Rebecca, I am sending that PM again.
