Smile 2 Quick questions - Modeling a bird for a short animation

Hi guys.
I have two quick questions.

I want to make a close-up animation of a crow and it will be rigged, but I have never modeled a bird for rigging so my question is, should I model it with it's wings spread out or closed to the body.
After modeling, I will rig it, add feathers with hair and fur (3dsMax 2012), make an environment and animate the crow for a few seconds. It will probably stand on a pole, do some moves and probably fly off.
The second thing is, how should I model wings because I'll add realistic feathers with Hair and Fur? How should the wing ends/edges look like?

I don't have the final concept yet, but I have the shot in my head, I wanted to know how should I model it before doing any sketches.
It will be a part of my first reel I'm working on and I will also do a still shot of that scene. The main focus is on photo-realism so keep that in mind if you wanna give me some tips on this.

You'll want to model it with winds spread.

Also, based on you're apparent lack of experience, you should know that getting the level of realism in that YT video isn't gonna happen until you have quite a few more years of experience.

Just try to keep your base mesh as simple and low poly as possible. You could try using single polygons as feathers, and combine them into one mesh for skinning. Map a texture with a transparency map to the feathers.
