Choosing right online course

Hello, there is online course about Maya dynamics. Course is very long (about 200+ hours) and it contains beginner to advanced VFX topics used in production. But course mostly focuses on Maya standard particles. (Which is under legacy tab in Maya 2017) My question is: Is it worth to invest that much time and learn FX related stuff and especially old particle simulations in Maya today and pay premium for it when there is Houdini there? Or is it better to save money for Houdini course? Good Houdini course costs much more than this Maya course. But also there are many free tutorials for Houdini. Can I start with free Houdini courses?I already know modeling and rendering in Maya and 3ds Max.

I think small studios do not use Houdini much, they use 3ds Max or Maya more for overall 3D work, but big studios prefer Houdini as I know.

So what do you think guys? Which one will be better future investment and your opinion about Maya for VFX and if they use it in small/medium studios for VFX.
Thanks
