Just to let you know i have not forgotten about this - but thought i would fully investigate the technique before doing a write up/video.
Currently i am working on a a simple scattering shader which easily adds as the name suggests scattering/translucency to the technique which produces some very nice results(but is still in a very early testing/development stage). I have also been working on what is the best way to model the clouds in a simple/easy way in C4d and the best way to distribute the sprites over the cloud surface ect. Together with thinking about expanding the technique to support particles/annimation.
So far the results are very promising so i am actively working on this and will report my findings/results.
