Does Pixar use Lafeyette, LA's fiber optic system?

I heard an interesting story on the news last night, that one of the fastest internet services in the US is down in Lafayette, LA. They basically built their own fiber optic system after the major providers refused to do so because it was such a small market.

One thing that the guy they were interviewing said that struck me as odd is that he said Pixar uses their fiber optic system because it is so fast, around 50MB/s. I don't see why Pixar would need it, as they do everything in-house, don't they?

Has anyone else heard of this?

Maybe they use it for some distant backup storage place, far away from the eyes of the public.

Ah I guess that would make sense, for off-site storage?
