Render to texture/better hi res decals

Sorry I didn't know what to call this thread.

I have been working on a project for a while now and have learned a great deal throughout.

My problem is this, I have created a hi resolution wall by building individual bricks to create this wall. having done so I now have a problem with decals,graffiti and other imperfections in the wall.

I first tied copying the whole wall as one object deleting the back and making a transparent texture, this works ok but seems a but much just for a decal. shown in image (wall C):-
I have tried to bake the texture but they seem to come out far too dark, and to be honest loose that realism look.

any ideas?
