Iss International Space Station, Mario Taddei - Studioddm (3D)

Title: Iss International Space Station
Name: Mario Taddei - Studioddm
Country: Italy
Software: 3dsmax 4!

This is the full model of the ISS, all the modules of the space station was modelled in full details. Only the inside structure is missing. More images of it in www.studioddm.com or my web www.mariotaddei.com.
I dit it 3 years ago.. without raytrace, lightracer or all the new light stuff you HAVE to use to make good images now.I think space images do not still need it. Do you? or we mast use lightrace and radiority everywhere?

You are right... the image is not perfect. Glow effect? Realistic? Remember.. I did this 3 years ago with Max 4 and a Pentium III.
I want to tell someting I know is a little bit controversy:
Did anyone of you get in space to see what is a realistic view from space?
Every time someone said there is missimg something for the realistic effect what reality the are refferring to?
All the mages in CG are not real images. if you need a real image you need a photo! If you are not able to get a picture, a real picture, you can make it in CG but when you do this you are not working with reality but only with fantasy and your own GESTALT your own "vision of the world" your reality.... your "matrix"

Of course if someone will ask me to make real images for a hollywood movie..... I'll put the glow!

ciao
Mario

I agree with you 100%, but I think you have to admit you took a few liberties with your image (like stars, you can see stars, which is not realistic). And all the photo ref I can find seems to show pretty clear atmosphere glow, also the shadows are very very hard, whereas yours seem quite soft. From some angles the earth acts as a big blue fill light, softening the contrast in the shadows. But in angles like yours there is very little fill. Great model though. I think harder edges on the shaows and a nice soft bluish fill light from the earth would really help.
