First 3ds Max Model: Leica D-Lux 4

Alright guys,

I've decided to try to learn 3DS Max and create something to go in my product design portfolio. I've never used it for proper modelling before and haven't had much experience using similar modelling tools, I was trained using parametric modelling spftware which uses solid features rather than polys or NURBS.

I'm still getting to grips with the mechanics of the program but feel I have made a solid start. I am really looking to get some feedback on modelling technique and topology. One of the things that I've been struggling with is creating holes and dividing the mesh without creating loads of 3 sided and irregular polys. I've using Booleans for this at the moment but from what I've read on forums this isn't a good way of doing it.

Anyway, here's the work so far. Have experimented a little with unwrapping the UVWs and applying some textures although will probably redo the whole lot once the modelling is finished. Will be putting the model into a scene as well for the beauty renders although that's a bit further down the line yet.

Any feedback you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I feel like its lacking detail, maybe you could model some smaller parts as well? It would really help to sell the model a bit more!

Haha yeah I realise it's looking pretty basic at the moment, it isn't finished yet by a long way. Maybe I've jumped the gun a bit by trying to get into the texturing before completing the actual model. Will be trying to find time to work on this over the next few days so hopefully should see some more details emerging.

Started to flesh out the detail on the top of the camera, as well as think about split lines for different components. Making slow progress, am only able to work on it after hours in the office as am without my computer at home at the moment.
