Mental Ray - MIA/ MI_car_paint - Layered shader ?

Which is the best and easier method of layering mia_material_x_passes AND/ OR MI_car_paint_phen_x_passes in maya 2013 ?

It seems that Maya's Layered Shader/Texture doesn't like mental's shaders!

Mix8layer and Mix20Layer and dj_mix_colors from David Johnson, doesn't seem to be working any more!

Any idea ?

This is a tricky subject, as simply just layering 2 shaders using standard math nodes like that is terribly inefficient and no good for render passes. Coming soon to MR is a new shader layering library with huge potential and perfect for what you are after. MentalCore also has a efficient layered material shader that works great with render passes too.

Mercquito,

I guess you are refering to MILA shaders, that David posted lately to his blog
http://elementalray.wordpress.com/2...yering-library/

Does anybody know, what is the direct download link if any ?

Best Regards,
Tri

have you tried the mib_color_mix node?

@tristratos: Just thought I'd clarify something you wrote in your first post.

dj_mix_colors is a "phenomenon" - that's the maya/mentalray term for a shader built on other shaders. In this case it is built on mib_color_mix which is a pretty old mentalray shader. I don't know what the b stands for, but I always think "basic".

Anyway, both mib_color_mix and dj_mix_colors continue to work in maya 2013 and are able to layer both materials and textures, including the mia_material_x with associated bump and texture maps.

I'm pretty sure neither will give you what you want with passes. Its not something I've tried though.

I'd also suggest that layering materials with dj_mix_colors is not going to be as good as using something more advanced like MentalCore.

David

The mila layering library is public beta now but you have to be a member of the nvidia ARC forum (and make a post so you can be approved, it's to catch bots swarming)

This is the best option for layering on may levels. Once the API is complete I expect many additions through mental core as well.
