Camera Flash for Texture Reference

Hey people, I have a question about taking your own texture reference. Is it a bad idea to use flash photography for shooting textures or is it fine?

I thought maybe I could stay out later at night past dusk if I used a mounted flash but would that lower the quality of my textures? I'm using a canon t3i with a 430EX II speedlite

I was thinking of using flash for flat surfaces, shot straight on. I won't know if it will work or not until I can render with some shots but does anyone have experience to tell me if it won't?
My posts are always so lllooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnng
