I've never heard of this. The default shortcut for creating a camera from the active view is Ctrl + C - when you do this, does it still create a camera? Could it be that your shortcut for this has accidentally been changed to double click, for some natty reason?

Very true that a mouse with a shortcut function, might have assigned the standard Windows Copy command to double click, which invokes button strokes Ctrl+C, which in turn creates a camera on Max viewport when it is the window of interest.
