No, I added a 3.2Ghz 8-core Mac to my setup, so that the new one bacame my primary 3D machine, and the 3ghz 8-core became a secondary 3D/2D workstation, which in turn replaced a G5.

Althouth the leap wasn't enormous, it was significant enough for the 2.5k price tag compared to the 4-5k I'd have paid for a new machine, with little speed gain, plus, it meant I had a second machine capable of 20k CB rendering as opposed to the far lesser G5!

Ah fair enough then ;-) I agree, with the current prices, it generally seems a better idea to get a high end previous gen machine than a low end current gen one. the new ones are nice, but theyre not 5 grand nice

After visiting Dell (T7500) and HP (HP Z800) for their 8 core Nehalem offerings, I've to concede, Apple's doesn't appear extraordinary high priced. They easily top that. Strange times...

Best regards,

I was hoping to find an alternative that was cheaper with the same power. I can't believe Apple's expensive machines are so competitive on price.

Ah well. Instead of getting a MacPro, I bought C4D.

It still runs great on my MacBookPro, but man, I wish I had the 16 lines of rendering in those new machines!
