Muscle Studies By Charles Icay

Hey guys,

This was a project that was done in my last semester for Life Drawing. It's a project called Muscle Studies. I hope you enjoy. Please feel free to critique!

Thank you!

Interesting idea. Are you just painting over the image or are you using some form of muscle reference? I have a nice book of Bernini scupltures and doing something like this trace-over with muscle reference at the side might be good exercise indeed.

It's a very nice idea to do this. Please keep posting because the images are highly instructional. Cheers!

Hey,

I don't think using other people's art as reference is a good idea. Too many artist's have their anatomy wrong, specially in superhero comic books they add muscles just because. And if you want to go with them, then at least go with Barry Windsor Smith's work

That being said, I'm sure your drawing will improve a lot after this studies. Mine did when I did a similar thing (and I still feel I should revisit it). Every one who likes drawing the human figure should do this at least once.
