Question about creating normal maps
I have a question about normal maps.
I've been sitting in Lightwave the whole day with a normal map creation plugin and have been getting some weird results...to say the least. I'm new to doing this and I'm not sure what's happening, so I'll provide images:
That's the normalmap i got out that I'm testing with right now.
Just weirdy lighted, and the model ignoring surface smoothing and turning faceted.
Does anyone recognize this? What am I doing wrong here? Applying it wrong? Creating it wrong? I bet it's some very basic technicality...but I'm stuck.
Applying it through the normal map node right now. Just linking it straight to the normal attribute of the material. I had to invert the map on the X and Z axis too...otherwise the material just turns dark, as if wholly inverted and catching no light.
I'm making models like these for a mod-project and would appreciate the help greatly.

That normal map is object spaced, so it will look off. You are expecting the results of Tangent space normal map which has the typical default blue color, and not the red-green color which you have now.
