Illustrator: Pattern Technique Question

Hey there, I am making a clothing 'yardage' (the pattern on the clothes) and was wondering if in Illustrator there is a way to make groups an 'instance' of a parent group, so that when you update the original/parent the other instances/copies change too.

Take a look at the pics below to help illustrate what I mean.

Is there a plug-in? Or would the best way be to make it a file and then import it in and repeatedily update the link... Hmm confusing lol

Any help woudl be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried using Symbols yet? They can do what your after.

Have a look at http://www.tutorialized.com/view/tu...g-symbols/10911 if you haven't used them before.
