Advice needed - Texturing a subsea cable

Hey guys,

It's been a while since my last post here... I have a texture problem which looks real easy at first sight. I need to texture a subsea cable which has a 'spiral formed' band across. It does not need to bee that way exactly. When it jus appears to be that way it's fine with me.

The mesh is quite simple; jus a basic spline with a Sweep NURBS... So no need for a rope plugin or something. I does need to be animated at the end

Any clues?? Thanks in advance.

greyscalegorilla has a candy cane tut - maybe the same techniques would work?

I'd use a gradient for the stripe and an angled noise for the bump: http://www.3danvil.com/tutorials/cable material.c4d material.c4d

I got carried away animating this with spline wrap.

Adam thanks for posting that scene file. I'd never noticed the transform effect in the layer shader, you may have sparked a minor revolution in my texturing!
