Creating UV Texture in Maya 2012

Hello
I downloaded from the Autodesk site a student version of Maya 2012 few months ago to my MacBook Pro- his software is Mac OS X 10.7.4.
I have advanced by myself in Maya and when I tried to change the Texture of a model that I created and I had several issues:
1) I couldnít move from perspective view to either front or side view through the space button after I chose a face because the program crashed. because of that I had to use other ways to move from one view to another after choosing a face. what can I do to fix it?
2) In the UV Texture window I could only see the face that I chose. I couldnít see the rest of the model.
I donít know what to do because Iím not aware if itís a problem with the student version, or a problem with the graphic card or a problem with my computer in general.
Even worse- Iím not aware if there is any support center to Autodesk in my country.
Any help will be welcomed, because I really donít know what to doÖ
I thank to the community in advance and hope that someone here can help.
