beautiful

this is really awesome, love the book and the concept of the dragon
was this inspired from some where or was it your own design?
you should mention that because both qualities are very good

Maybe you could incorporate a little bit of color so that the book and the dragon dont fade away and still be the highlight of the image

but beautiful work

:)

Thank you very much for your comment!

For what concern the dragon:
unfortunately the client didn't have the budget for a complete original dragon so I chose a 3d model to buy and finalised this one.
This is a mixed technique, I did a lot in photoshop, such as part of the textures and digital painting.
You're right, the book and golden dragon fades away in background but I didn't have great possibilities to do something different at this point.
This is the third version of the book. The client changed his mind twice on the subject before deciding for the final one.

Here you have the w.i.p. and the original model,
below you have the other versions

I agree with some of the comments below (such as the dragon and book seeming to fade away slightly because of lack of color differentiation). I love the concept of the dragon (namely the head) and I like that you showed the 3D concept adn all of that, but the body is seriously lacking in anatomical foundations and looks kind of off (the body should be a tad thicker, and the bent arm looks a bit strange). I love the head, though. It has a great design concept and looks beautifully rendered. The 3D sample of the dragon by itself actually looks rather nice (although the arm is still a bit week).

Your flames for the book are really well done (were they rendered with Photoshop, or are they photo-manipulations of photos of fire?). The early concepts of the piece with the three kids has a "Neverending Story" kind of feel to it, especially the kid in the middle. Good job with the smoke and the rendering of the volcano in the background (it's even strong by itself). In fact, each of your components look pretty good on their own, and they're look really nice with strong details and rendering when together, but parts of it look cluttered or get lost or busy (always a compositional challenge when working so many beautiful elements together). Overall, though, you did a great job with this piece, and I hope your client is happy with the result. It's diffenitely one for your portfolio. Keep it up. Great job.

Thank you very much for your comment linainverse23,
I agree, dragon's anatomy has some problems, but as I tried to explain in the previous post,
I decided to do not model it but to buy it because of the low budget of my client.
A complete self made dragon model, made for this book cover, would have been better for sure. Next time.
The one I bought was a snake-dragon, similar to chinese dragons, the modeller who made this put a lot of attention in the head model and less in the body
and you noticed that.
The fire is made by photoediting fire images.
The smoke is made by using a self made photoshop brush. Volcano is a mattepainting, made by a base of little photo pieces.
First version with children has been hard to make because I had to find photos in imagebanks. I spent a week to do this.
I agree, it reminds never ending story.
Fortunately the client is happy with the result
Thank you again for your exhaustive comment.
Here you have the first concept the client gave to me.
