Thanks all.

You need higher resolution and shading with light and shadow. Read up on the huge and interesting FumeFX thread, lots of treasures burried in

Thanks Hristo,

I knew about the resolution that I have to crank it up.

Just checking whether the LPG cylinder explosion is close to real.
Thanks all.

The question is do YOU think it is close to real? When you think it is close to real then most likely everyone else will too.

"Believable" takes lots of work in lots of different areas.

Before you do anything listed below, find some reference footage!

1. You are modeling and texturing your environment. That in itself is a huge undergoing in making the believable. I would suggest starting with a photograph an environment, believability already up one notch.

2. Rough block model anything in your environment that will interact with your explosion
believability up another notch.

3. Learn how to use matte/shadow materials and projection mapping
believability up another notch

4. READ the FumeFX thread Hristo suggested
believability up another notch.

5. Learn how to use lights and shadows to match the environment that you are comping too.
believability up a couple of notches.

6. Learn your renderer and how render passes make your life easier!
believability up another notch.

7. Learn how to use a compositing package to assemble your shot.
believability up another notch.

8. Believable shot!

You see bad ass stuff all over the place because you typically have ten or more bad ass artists all working on the same shot. Take it in stride, it takes time. If your want to hurry skip all steps but number 4 and learn how to use Fume first but don't expect believable without having an understanding of all of the other steps.

Thanks Johnny for all the valuable info.

FumeFX is really interesting.
I have really put a lot of time in learning the Fume stuff, I just didn't want to learn it through practical methods but want to know it theoretically.

Thanks for stressing on the fume thread again. As Hristo also suggested, I really get the value of the information in there.

FumeFX combined with the mental ray rendering engine is giving me a hard time as I am not able to complete a render using mental ray, crashes..

Tried with scanline, worked fine but the whole thing of comping is something I haven't touched yet.

Tried Vray saw the environment but didn't see the fume fluids on render.

Thanks Johnny again, very much inspired.
Thanks all.
