mudbox normal map

Hello everyone,

I have a base mesh that i imported to mudbox from maya and i had already unwrapped all the UVs in UVlayout, i worked on some of the details in mudbox on a separate sculpt layer and they looked good enough, however when i extracted a normal map a lot of the details got messy.

clean details:

Details after map extraction:

Any advice?

well i tried to extract a displacement map and it had the same messy effect, when i open the map in photoshop i can see the errors in it, so if i use the brush tool i can kind of fix it manually, and then when i import it back to maya and render the displacement map it works great, but i have a lot of details so i cant edit it all in photoshop, it'll take ages.well at least now i know the problem is from my map or from how it is being extracted in mudbox.
Any help?

Does look like a uv issue. Did smoothing uvs work?

Try switching your projection type. Use raycasting instead of subdivision or vice versa in the map extraction settings. And make sure you are projecting onto the level of detail you are going to us as the low res (don't use lvl 0 if you are using lvl2 as your low res mesh).
