the girl with the dragon tattoo, Sean Ellery (2D)

Title: the girl with the dragon tattoo
Name: Sean Ellery
Country: Australia
Software: Photoshop

Pencils by Peppe Cafaro
Inks by :James Goodwin

Colour by me! :)

Peppe draws some lovely ladies doesn't he? The original colours to this (in Peppe's deviantart gallery) look amazing as well and I was somewhat hard pressed to come up with something different. I did some research into Geisha makeup patterns, which explains the little sharp edges on her neck and then the normal skintones for the rest. It's not the only style of Geisha makeup, or even the most common, but it's one of them...

cheers
Sean

Thumbs up

Pretty cool. I really like how you colored the hair and how you captured the shapes of the hairstyle with all of the blue highlights (probably my favorite part). You're cherry blossoms look more like torn bits of paper rather than flower petals, though. Her silhouette is really cool, and I like the costuming and patterns you got on her. Those geometric edges around her neck are interesting (didn't know geisha make-up sometimes went that way). The greens on the kimono may be a bit too "earthy" in color tone (maybe a brighter green or a more blue-tinged green would've gone better with the reds). I like the monkey subject matter on the fan (different and they turned out really well). There are a lot of individual components that I like about this piece, and most of it works harmoniously together in the composition (especially for the amount of details you added). Keep it up. Great job.
