My latest Female Character: WIP

My name is Ross Hildick and although I have a lot of models and textures to my name... I am still at university (studying Computer Animation Arts BA(Hons) with the NCCA in Bournemouth, England) and dont really have any works worthy of any particular note; This will hopefully be the model to change that!... maybe. I'll be posting everything I do here for crits and suggestions along the way. I am doing everything myself except the initial concept with is in the form of one single sketch by the extremely talented Lisa Huxstep. She is an amazing illustrator who can capture likeness, character, personality and weight in her images in literally seconds... http://lhucko.wix.com/hucko

ANYWAY... here's the image I'm starting off with:


My influences will be from the great Andew Hickinbottom and Carlos Ortega

I am not going for an EXACT likeness to the concept by Lisa.
Again, feel free to crit my work as much as you want or try to help e along in any way - this is all a learning curve for me.

pose & proportions



Here's the pose. This was doing with the morpheus rig (which, if you didn't know, enables you to change the body shape and gener etc) which I will then use to model my own geo from.

The proportions are slightly elongated here after posing which is the style I'm going for (slightly longer-that-average limbs for a more cartoony feel)

Busy at university so cant get much done regarding sideprojects but here yar

Smile hair

Not sure whether to keep the old hair and normal map it or make it a tad more realistic with the strands like this...


What do you guys think? I'll keep this for now and see how it goes

EDIT: for those who would like to know how I did this, I made the placeholer hair 'live' and draw curves all over it, I then extruded cube faces along each one tapering at the end with enough divisions to hold the shape (no more)
