Reflection/shadow problem with mental ray

Hello!

I am currently in the process of modelling my character. I have modelled an eye that looks nice on its on and with the default light setting. However, when I try to set up an area light and render it, it looks quite bad. Judging by the pictures below, could someone be able to determine what is causing the problem? The biggest problem is the fact that it goes a lot darker and occasionally there seem to be random shadows. I have tried turning off the recieve/cast shadows on the eye objects but it didn't make any difference.

i think u need to increase the level of raytracing in the render global setting. If the problem exist then try having some indirect illumination like turning on the final gathering.
