That change happened this year. . .have to give it some time.

AD is very helpful to many developers looking to create a plug-in. The problem is removing callbacks and more that were tied to mental ray.

Easier separation is improvement for everyone.

any chance to have a clean new mental core (maybe with mental ray standalone under the hood)? I´m really looking forward to something different than the maya integration, i guess more than one studio would be interested in this

btw, anybody knows if the maya to max export works with mray materials?

If this is the case, great. Too bad that we all have to pay extra to get a decent integration for something that should just work though, but I guess it's inevitable.

Quote: It seems clear to me now, that maya will not at all be intended for rendering anymore. Autodesk wants you to buy all their softwares for a complete pipeline. When it comes to rendering, maya is dead. Abandon ship.

Wowie! I got fired and didn't even know it. Thanks for the heads-up, LostParanoia! Now I can sleep in tomorrow.

While I understand your frustrations due to our extensive conversations now, it really just seems like Maya's a tool to me. As a tool, it still does exactly what I need it for, even if I still rather suck at it. Unless people stop doing construction around here, the tool is still entirely valid and massively useful. I have no competition in the private sector, currently. I guess my point is that your point was wonderfully well-written and poetic, similar to Beowulf or Madagascar maybe in complexity and irony.

@Mercuito: I too would love to see how your Core system comes along this year, keep at it? Pretty impressive stuff so far!
