3D software with built-in video camera tracking ?

hello

i just want to put 3D objects over a video, with camera tracking so that they follow the cameraman's moves.

After Effect and Nuke have very limited 3D capabilities.
Maya doesn't have camera tracking, and you can't import video, just image sequences.
Blender, same.
Boujou and MatchMover, i haven't had much luck with those. slow rendering, weird tracking, perspective doesn't match once imported in Maya ...

i understand that 3D is complicated stuff, but really, isn't there a simple solution in 2012 ?

Do you guys really always convert video to image sequence, then deal with a buggy camera tracker, then import to Maya to find that the image sequence isn't correctly named ... etc etc ...
why is this all so complicated ? isn't there a software that makes it straightforward ?

i'm on mac but i can use bootcamp.

thanks !

Blender 3D camera-tracking tutorial:

Also, Syntheyes is pretty easy to use:

Its Mac & PC available.

Good luck...

Hi perhaps you should ask this in the MAYA forum
as your problem sounds Maya specific
also in general there is no "simple" auto camera tracking solution in 2012 ,that will get you results like Boujou and Match Mover or even AE with its bundled Mocha companion tracking app.

Cheers

If you consider converting and dealing with an image sequence too complicated, I have a feeling you won't be happy with any 3D tracking solution, and you'll hate compositing.

This stuff is easier to do than ever, but still does require actual work to get good results.

I find Blender a bitch to use personally (don't like the user interface much...)

But yes, Blender has a working 3D camera tracker now!

I bought a license of Syntheyes to do this kind of thing a few years ago, and it was very easy to use back then.

There was also a low-cost 3D tracker called Pfhoe... but I think that Pixel-Farm has discontinued it.

Good luck with your project. Whichever solution you run with...
