Dragged myself kicking and screaming to the 'join' page. Another challenge. One more time to sneak silently to the back door.

I do like the fact that we are allowed to make 3D pre-visualization instead of a concept sketch this time around. Works better for me, although I might make some form of combination. There will be more than one concept anyway.

Sooo...Eon, huh? Borrowed the book in 1990 at the library. So technically I have read it...My memory however...
Basically what I'm trying to say is that I will wing it big time. Shoot from the hip kind of thing.

I will be making one of the chambers. About a billion polygons. (Kidding!)
At the moment it's the number 2 chamber that looks most interesting, but I'm not certain as of yet. Have to do some concepts first.

Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: Testing Plasma tube

Testing a color for the plasma tube(Main light)
Also trying to figure out the angle of the chamber. It has a diameter of 50 km in the book and is shorter in length.

Concept Sketch or 3D pre-visualization: Chandelier Building - fast sketch

Quote: And scattered throughout the city, like bumpers on a pinball board, were the biggest structures she had ever seen in her life. Easily four kilometers tall, they resembled upright chandeliers made of concrete, glass and shining steel. Each facet of the nearest chandelier-structure was as large as entire buildings in between. The chandelier resemblance increased as she looked up and saw them suspended from the chamber floor overhead

Should be nice and symetric to model.

That Chandelier building is truly hugh! Could mean enormous power within!
I'm curious to find out more now!
Good luck!

Shading (Textured and lit): First texture

Thanks Varma, Try and Gunilla. Huge is the right word. 4 km high, according to the book.
Done some small texture work during the weekend. Will start with a bridge next.

Hei Robert!
Looks like you have started detailing your model. It looks great, and makes the scale
more believable!
I hope you can get away with the "Moir" when you start animating the scene! I for
one couldn't deal with it in another project and it was really bugging me!

keep it up kompis!

???

WOW, I am wondering how are you planning to put a texture on all those thousands of windows.

But, the building is awsome.

Maybe it's to fragile considering how it's tanding in vertical position.

Good work.

Modeling: Background Buildings - Set 1

First set of buildings. All based on the same simple box. These buildings will most likely not be seen this close.
