Spectral Material

Hi guys,

I'm trying to create a material similar to the one in the pictures attached. I really don't know how to start this particularly beacause it is going to be animated.
The linear reflection you see in the first picture does not derive from the light source's shape though it creates this reflection with any kind of light source.
Also it moves in this shape when altering the perspective.

I hope the pictures attached are enough to pass a judgement.

Cheers! Yannick

I would create a color gradient for the reflection color and link it to the incidence angle. For the shape of the reflection, there might be an anisotropic effect involved.

A quick test I did:

What app do you use?

Thanks for your reply! That looks already quite like it! I'll try that.
I'm currently using Max 2012.

I don't know how to do it in Max, I have never used that program. Should be simple though.

Anisotropic effect should be stronger than on my screenshots and the reflections blurry:

cube (yes, not much to do today :P )

Try a Gradient Ramp Map with the Gradient Type set to Normal and add custom color flags in the gradient.
