Rubik Cube - Extruding different objects

Hey Guys and Galls,

I am in need of help.

I am currently working on a project where I need to create a Rubix cube but instead of the standard face it will have have other elements in its place.

This picture show's the cube in its modelled form.

I then created a cube of the exact same size to use as a texture reference. I created a PSD network and then created the texture with images in place.

Below is one of the different faces from the texture map.

So Ideally I want to extrude the speech bubbles so that they are on the individual squares.

What I have done so far is create paths in AI, imported in and had a lot of trouble and hassle so need an alternative.

I have also tired modelling from separate shapes which I would then of combined but again no luck.

Could someone suggest me an approach to extruding these shapes from the individual cubes?

I feel like there must be a simpler way and I am making things worse for my self

Hey man,

How raised do you need them to be? A bump might work well for a very small extrusion effect.

Hey AJ,

Ah I didn't think of Bump mapping them.

It would need to be quite a distance as I was the different sides to have different heights and looks. Some will be more organic than others and some will be straight edged.

I'm going to have a look into bump mapping now.
